Employers must ensure they follow a fair process before ending employment. Failure to follow a fair process can give grounds for an employee to claim unfair dismissal at the Employment Tribunal. Model fair process procedures are available from JACS.
Employees must give the correct notice period to end their employment. Notice can be given at any time during continuous employment, including during probation, parental leave, annual leave and sickness.
